Quick answer

Search for the name on the FoxFolio Cloud domains page or in the account store, add an available .com, .ca, .net, .org or .io name to the cart, and complete checkout. Checkout shows the exact CAD registration charge, any optional ID protection and HST before you pay. The registration request is sent after payment, and you must answer any registrant verification email.

Before you start

  • The name you want, and one or two alternatives
  • A FoxFolio Cloud account, or the details to create one during checkout
  • Accurate registrant contact details, including an email address you check
  • For .ca: a Canadian presence as defined by the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA)

Applies to: Domains.

What you can register

  • Standard names ending in .com, .ca, .net, .org or .io. Other extensions are not currently offered.
  • Registry-premium names are not sold. If a search shows a name as premium or unavailable, choose another.
  • Registrations are yearly and renew automatically unless you turn renewal off. See Domain renewals, expiry and grace periods.
  • Domain fees are not refundable, including under the hosting money-back guarantee. See the Terms of service.

Steps

  1. Search for the name

Type the name on the domains page and select Search domains, or open the domain registration cart (opens in a new tab) directly.

  2. Choose an available result

Add the exact spelling you want to the cart. Suggested alternatives appear too; check each one carefully before adding it.

  3. Decide on ID protection

If ID protection is offered for the extension, choose whether to add it. See Domain privacy and ID protection.

  4. Add hosting or email if you need it

A domain on its own does not include a website or mailbox. Add hosting or Basic Email in the same order if you want them.

  5. Check the contact details

Sign in or create your account. The registrant name and email must be accurate: registries use them for ownership and verification.

  6. Review and pay

Check the domain spelling, term, CAD amount, any add-ons, HST and total, then pay. Keep the currency set to CAD; FoxFolio Cloud charges and invoices in Canadian dollars.

  7. Answer the verification email

If the registry sends a verification email to the registrant address, open the link and confirm the details promptly. See Domain contact details and registrant verification.

What you should see

The domain appears under Domains → My Domains in your account, first as pending and then as Active once the registry confirms it. A new domain uses FoxFolio Cloud’s nameservers.

Troubleshooting and common mistakes

The search says the name is unavailable.
Someone else already holds it, or it is a registry-premium name. Try another extension from the five offered, or a different spelling.
A .ca order is held or rejected.
CIRA requires a Canadian presence for the registrant. Check that the registrant details meet that requirement, then contact support.
The domain stays pending for more than a day.
Check for an unpaid invoice and for a verification email. If both are fine, open a ticket.

When to contact FoxFolio support

Open a ticket if a paid registration is still pending after one business day, or if the registry rejects the registrant details. Include the domain name and invoice number.

Common questions

Do I need hosting to register a domain?

No. You can register a domain on its own and add hosting or email later, or keep it pointed somewhere else.

Why does checkout show a different amount from the domains page?

The domains page shows a USD price and a CAD estimate. The CAD amount in checkout is the amount you are charged, before HST.
