Register or transfer a domain while buying hosting
Add a new domain registration or a domain transfer to a FoxFolio Cloud hosting order in one checkout, and know what to prepare before a transfer.
Quick answer
On the hosting checkout’s domain step, choose Register a new domain to search for an available name, or Transfer your domain from another registrar to move a domain you own. FoxFolio Cloud registers .com, .ca, .net, .org and .io. The domain is charged separately from hosting, and checkout shows its CAD price, any optional privacy protection, tax and total before you pay.
Before you start
- For a transfer: the domain unlocked at its current registrar and its authorization (EPP) code
- For a .ca registration: you meet the Canadian presence requirements for .ca domains
Applies to: Cloud Hosting, WordPress Cloud, Managed WordPress, Domains.
Steps
Choose a plan and term
Start from the plan chooser and continue to the domain step.
Register a new domain
Choose Register a new domain, type the name you want in the Domain name field and check availability. Pick an available result.
- Registry-premium names are not sold at standard prices; checkout shows if a name is unavailable.
Or transfer a domain
Choose Transfer your domain from another registrar and enter the domain. Checkout checks that it is eligible. You will be asked for the authorization code; enter it only in the secure checkout, never in the contact form or a ticket.
Decide on privacy protection
Optional ID protection is offered for eligible domains. See Domain privacy and ID protection.
Review the cart
Check the hosting plan and term, the domain and its registration period, the CAD amounts, HST and the total, then pay.
Watch for domain emails
A new registration may trigger a registrant verification email; a transfer sends an approval request to the domain’s owner contact. Act on both promptly.
What you should see
Your hosting service is set up on the new or transferred domain. A registration is usually active within minutes; a transfer normally completes within a few days after approval.
Troubleshooting and common mistakes
- The transfer is marked not eligible.
- The domain may still be locked, recently registered or transferred, or not yet registered. Unlock it at the current registrar and wait out any 60-day lock; see Transfer a domain to FoxFolio Cloud.
- The name you want is taken.
- Try another extension or variation. The search suggests alternatives.
- The site does not work during a transfer.
- A transfer does not by itself move your website. Keep DNS working at the current provider until the transfer completes and the new site is ready.
When to contact FoxFolio support
Open a ticket if a registration or transfer shows as failed, if the approval email never arrives, or if you need help with .ca eligibility. Do not include the authorization code in the ticket.
