Quick answer

FoxFolio Cloud provides backup and restore tools, but you remain responsible for keeping your own independent copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. The included tools create backups on demand only. When a service ends, its data is held for 30 days and then permanently deleted, so export what you need before that. A simple routine of regular downloads, stored in two places, covers most risks.

Before you start

  • An active FoxFolio Cloud service
  • Somewhere outside FoxFolio Cloud to store copies, such as your computer and a cloud drive

Applies to: Cloud Hosting, WordPress Cloud, Managed WordPress, Basic Email, Premium Website Backups.

What the Terms of service say

Read the full wording in Your content, backups and deletion.

  • Backup and restore tools are available in the control panel, and recurring off-site retention is not included unless your order says otherwise.
  • These tools are not a substitute for your own independent copies.
  • When a service ends, its data is kept for 30 days in case you change your mind, then permanently deleted and unrecoverable.

Steps

  1. Choose a schedule

Pick how often to download a backup based on how often the site changes: weekly for a brochure site, daily or before every big change for a shop or busy blog.

  2. Download backups

Use Create an on-demand backup and save each ZIP with the date in its name.

  3. Keep two copies

Store each backup in two separate places, for example your computer and a cloud drive, and delete very old copies you no longer need.

  4. Protect email separately

Website backups do not include mailboxes. Use a mail app with IMAP to keep a local copy of important mail, or export folders.

  5. Test a restore occasionally

Open a backup ZIP to confirm it is complete, or restore it to a temporary folder. A backup you have never checked may not be the one you need.

  6. Before cancelling, export everything

Download a final backup and copy mail before a service ends. After the 30-day hold, data cannot be recovered.

What you should see

You hold recent, tested copies of your website and important email outside FoxFolio Cloud, so a mistake, compromise or cancellation cannot cost you your work.
