Hosting limits and what you are responsible for
The practical limits of FoxFolio Cloud hosting, the platform protections that may affect visitors, and what stays your responsibility under the Terms of service.
Quick answer
FoxFolio Cloud hosting scales resources with demand, but each service has limits, such as its mailbox allowance and the 1 GB size of each database, and the Terms forbid use that harms other customers or breaks the law. You are responsible for your website’s content, code, themes, plugins and your own backups. Support covers the hosting platform and control panel, not building or debugging your site.
Before you start
- An active hosting service, or a plan you are considering
Applies to: Cloud Hosting, WordPress Cloud, Managed WordPress.
Limits to know about
- Storage and mailboxes: each plan has storage and mailbox allowances; standard mailboxes hold 10 GB each. The control panel shows current usage.
- Databases: up to 1 GB per database; WordPress plans use one database for their one site.
- Websites: one website and one primary domain per hosting service.
- Performance: CPU, memory and bandwidth scale with visitor demand on the cloud platform, but processes that use so many resources that other customers are affected are not allowed.
- Email sending: mailboxes have daily sending limits to protect deliverability; bulk marketing should use a dedicated sending service.
Platform protections your visitors may notice
- Bot check: suspicious traffic can see a brief “verifying you’re not a robot” page. A visitor who passes it is not challenged again for about 48 hours.
- Web application firewall: requests that look like attacks are blocked, sometimes with a 403 error. If a legitimate action is blocked, FoxFolio Cloud support can review the rule.
- CDN caching: static files are cached near visitors; purge the cache in the control panel after changing them.
Your responsibilities
- Everything published, stored or sent through the service, including by people you give access to (acceptable use).
- Keeping your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose; the included tools are not a substitute (your data).
- Your website’s own code, themes and plugins, and their licences. Managed WordPress adds scheduled maintenance as described on its page.
- Keeping account and domain contact details current so notices reach you.
Steps
Check your usage
Open the control panel for the service and review disk, mailbox and database usage from the overview and the relevant tools.
Read the key Terms sections
Read acceptable use, availability and support and your content, backups and deletion.
Set up your own backups
Download regular backups and store them away from FoxFolio Cloud. See What you remain responsible for with backups.
Plan for growth
If a site regularly needs more than a hosting plan offers, discuss a managed cloud server; see When standard hosting is a better choice than a server.
What you should see
You know the limits that apply to your service, how platform protections behave, and which tasks stay with you.
Troubleshooting and common mistakes
- Visitors report a robot check page.
- That is the bot protection. Most visitors pass it in seconds. If search engines or a monitoring service keep getting blocked, open a ticket.
- A form or admin action returns a 403 error.
- The firewall may have blocked it. Note the page, time and action, and open a ticket so the rule can be reviewed.
- Storage is nearly full.
- See Fix storage limits for websites and mailboxes.
When to contact FoxFolio support
Open a ticket if a limit blocks normal use of your site, if you receive a notice about resource use or acceptable use, or if a platform protection blocks legitimate traffic.
